10 Places To Share a Blog Post After You Hit Publish

When I first started blogging I would spend hours writing a blog post, editing images and just generally making sure that everything looked okay. I’d then hit publish and just sit back and wait for people to read it. It didn’t take me long to realise this was not the way forward. I just wasn’t reaching enough people.

These days I spend just as much time promoting my latest posts as I do writing them and guess what? I’m reaching a lot more people. Funny that!

Today I thought I’d share with you…

10 places to share your blog posts after you hit publish

Twitter

10 Places to Share your Blog Post after you Hit Publish Twitter is a fantastic place to share your latest posts as you can use relevant hashtags to go with it. So for example, if you have written a post about ‘Creating an edible garden in the Spring’ you could use the hashtags #EdibleGarden, #Gardening and #Spring. Your post will then appear in those hashtag feeds. Remember to include an image in your tweet to make sure it gets noticed.

Twitter is very fast and tweets with nice bright images stand out more and grab people’s attention. You can also tag in relevant companies in the hope that they may find your post interesting and share it. Make sure you’re not spamming people though, that is not cool!

On the day I publish a post I tend to share it three times that day on Twitter, once in the morning, one mid afternoon and once in the evening. I then share the post a few times again in the future. Everyone has different views on how often to share a post on Twitter but personally, I feel twice in a day is enough. The last thing I want to do is bombard people and annoy them.

Update: I have now installed a plugin called Revive Old Post which automatically tweets out my old posts for me. It’s definitely worth looking into.

Facebook

You should always share your latest posts on your blog’s Facebook page like I have here. If you haven’t got a page then set one up! It’s a great way to build followers and interact with people. Again make sure you include an image in every post and you can also use hashtags on Facebook, although they aren’t as popular as on Twitter and can irritate some die-hard Facebook fans so keep that in mind.

If you have worked with a company in your post make sure to tag them by typing @(nameofthecompaniesFacebookpage) so for example, I recently did a collaboration with Saltrock clothing and I tagged them into the Facebook post by typing @SaltrockSoul, this then linked to their Facebook page.

Relevant Facebook Groups

As well as sharing your posts on your own Facebook page you should also share it in some relevant Facebook groups. Bear in mind though that each group has it’s own set of rules so please read them before you do anything. The groups are run by volunteers and they often spend a disproportionate amount of their time monitoring the groups and deleting spammy comments. Stick to the rules and you’ll be fine.

Some of the groups I personally use are UK Bloggers, The Blogging Mums Club, Mummy & Daddy Bloggers and Mummy, Beauty & Lifestyle Bloggers.  To find a group relevant to you and your blog simply type what you are looking for into the search bar at the top and see what comes up.

Pinterest

If you have some lovely bright images on your blog, which I highly recommend, then you should be sharing them on Pinterest. One of the easiest ways to do this is to install the Pin It button to your browser bar, (details of how to do this can be found on the Pinterest site). Then simply add your images to relevant boards on your account.

Share Boards on Pinterest

Another way of sharing your posts on Pinterest is by joining or creating share boards. These are boards that multiple people can add pins too. Ones I use are Share the Blog Love created by the lovely Jocelyn from the blog The Reading Residence and UK Blogger Share Board by the equally lovely Kay from Mummy’s Blog

Update: I’m now a contributor on over 20 group boards. This has been a game changer for me and massively increased my page views each month.

I now pin at least 50 times a day, every day of the week. This may seem a little excessive but I have found the ultimate tool which makes this really easy. It’s called Tailwind.

Stumble Upon

Stumble Upon is one that I have only recently started using myself but it’s certainly worth it. You will need to set up an account and then you can ‘Add a Page’. You are allowed to add your own posts but you should also add other bloggers posts too. Share the blog love.

Google+

In order to share your post on Google+, you will need to have an account set up. You then simply go to your Google+ profile and add your latest post. They have recently changed the site so that you can add collections to your page which is a great way of grouping your posts, making it easier for readers to find what they are after.

Reddit

Reddit is another great way to reach more people. You can add your latest post by clicking ‘Submit a link’, you then add in the title of your post, the link itself and then you need to choose a subreddit. Examples include funny, fitness, thrift etc. You do have to be careful on Reddit though not to spam the place with loads of your own links. Make sure you add other people’s blog posts too or apparently you can get banned. Reddit calls it ‘practising good reddiquette’.

Instagram

I would only recommend using Instagram for promoting blog posts if you have very bright, clear images. There is nothing worse than seeing a slightly fuzzy, dark picture come up on your Instagram feed. If however, you do have lovely clear images then definitely use Instagram for promoting.

One problem with Instagram, however, is that you can’t add a link to your post. I normally combat this by putting the following in the description… ‘Link in Bio’. Anyone that uses Instagram regularly will know what this means, for anyone that doesn’t know it simply means that the link to your blog is in your bio which you have to create for your account.

You can add the link in the settings section, make sure it is just a link to your main homepage though and not a link to a certain post. You don’t want to have to change the link every time you write a new post.

You also have the ability to use relevant hashtags on Instagram which I highly recommend you do so more people see your posts.

Relevant Linkies

The last place that I share my latest posts is on any relevant blog linkies. I do this last as it takes up the most time as you normally have to add the linky badge to your post and then comment on other bloggers posts too. I find the best thing to do is grab a cuppa and get reading. You can find some great blog

You can find some great blog linkies on my The Ultimate Blog Linky List. There are different rules for every linky so please make sure you are familiar with the terms of each one before you join in and make sure the post is relevant to the linky.

  1. Fantastic tips 🙂 I’ve never thought of using Reddit before, it always gives me the impression there’s too much jumping through hoops. I like the more chilled out vibes on sites. I do like to share other people’s stuff, but I don’t like the idea of it being a rule. Some days there just isn’t time to do everything! #binkylinky

    1. I know what you mean, I struggle to keep up with all the different rules on the different sites and time is always an issue too. Glad you like the tips 🙂

    1. Gosh I didn’t realise you need to share 10 posts to every one of your own! I better up my game a bit as I haven’t been doing that and really don’t want to get marked as spam.

  2. It took me a while to realise that nothing I had written would get read unless I promoted it. I’m slowly getting the hang of pinterest and twitter, and funnily enough was planning to check out stumbleupon next – thanks for sharing your tips 🙂

    1. HI Kelly, I haven’t been using it for very long myself but what I do is first sign in, I then click on the little arrow next to my profile picture up on the right hand side.
This then brings up a bar of options and I click the ‘Add a Page’ tab. It then takes you to a new screen where you add in the URL of the page you want to add. It also asks you if it’s safe for work so check yes or no.
You then have the option to add in an interest which is basically a category for your post to go under. So for example one of my posts was about health and beauty so I found the health category and added that in.
You then just click save and you’re done.
I hope that helps you a bit?

I'd love to know what you think...
