I was recently contacted by Lakeland Furniture to see if I would be interested in reviewing some of their chairs. The timing was perfect! Since buying our new house over two years ago I have slowly been decorating each room. I confess that I’m a sucker for pretty things and I actually find it stressful if I live in an environment that isn’t pleasing to the eye.
I hate shopping for clothes or shoes it’s just not my thing. I’d much rather spend my money on creating a home that makes me smile when I walk into each room.
Vintage Industrial Style Kitchen Decor
One of the rooms that I have been working on is our kitchen. I’m a big fan of the latest industrial home decor craze so I have gone down that route. I’ve slowly been adding in little elements of industrial mixed with vintage pieces. The one thing that I had been holding off on though was chairs. I only needed three as the other half built me my lovely bench which we’ve placed at the back of the table. He’s so clever!
I’ve had my eye on some new chairs for a while now but just couldn’t justify the cost of them until I was made aware of a site that sell replicas of the type of chairs I was after. I’m so glad I held off now.
‘It is based on a design by Charles which came second in the International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture run by the American Museum of Modern Art in 1948’. Lakeland Furniture
I did a bit of Googling and found out the original chairs sell for around £250 each! The ones I got sell for £49.99 each on the Lakeland Furniture website, that’s quite a difference in price right?
I must admit that before they arrived I was a little concerned that they would feel a bit flimsy and not really up to the abuse that two kids might throw at them but I’m happy to report that they are well and truly up to it. The quality of the chairs is fantastic. They come boxed in two parts; the main chair and the legs but they are very easy to assemble and only took a few minutes. All assembly parts are included so you don’t need to drag out your tool box.
I instantly fell in love with the chairs, the other half on the other hand took a little more convincing. He thought they would be uncomfortable as they are plastic and before we had cushioned faux leather chairs, which I hate by the way! After a few days of sitting on them all day for work though he’s decided that actually they are comfortable and apparently this is due to the ABS plastic which is used to make the chairs.
‘Our chair has a seat made from one piece of ABS plastic which is ergonomically moulded to fit the human body and provide both comfort and support through its inherent flexibility and strength. Being plastic, it is easy to keep clean and light to carry. The seat is mounted on a base of chrome plated rods, which appear quite fragile but are cleverly engineered to provide the necessary support. Each foot is covered by a small floor protector.’ Lakeland Furniture
I too can confirm that they are comfortable as I also sit on them all day for work.
Originally I wanted three different colours but I just couldn’t make my mind up for the third colour so in the end I choose two blues and one yellow. I now wish I had chosen three different but hey ho. Maybe I shall ask for another one for my birthday.
I really feel that the room is starting to come together now although the table is the next project on my list. We bought it years ago at an antique warehouse and it’s in dire need of upcycling. I’m hoping to get this done for National Upcycling Day. Check back soon to see how I get on with that.
