I recently read an article that was music to my ears. It was about trends and what was predicted to be popular for 2018. The first trend was about consumers wanting to feel good about themselves. This included buying from ethical and sustainable sources. This made me very happy!
In short, consumerism is out and conscious consuming is in. People living in Sweden are model examples of conscious consumers. They buy expensive, good quality goods that last rather than buying a tonne of cheap rubbish that will ultimately end up in landfill.
One of my personal aims for this year is to shop more sustainably. I want to consider the impact that my purchases make. My first task is researching sustainable & ethical clothing brands. (More on that to come later).

I was recently contacted by a Swedish company that has recently launched in the UK, called Photowall. They sell a range of eco-friendly canvas prints & wall murals.
Who Is Photowall?
‘We are a Swedish company with a passion for design and quality. Our wall murals and canvas prints are environmentally friendly, fire-retardant in accordance with Swedish standards and do not fade in sunlight.’
Eco Credentials
Environmental issues are really important to Photowall and they are constantly striving to minimise their impact on the planet. So how do you make eco-friendly canvas prints?
- All products are made to order so no waste
- The printing ink used for their wallpapers contains no solvents or hazardous chemicals and is biodegradable.
- The wallpaper glue is made from natural materials and is biodegradable.
- Their canvas is 100% cotton and biodegradable.
- The frames are made from wood & metal which can be recycled.
- Waste material is recycled by environmental entrepreneur Hans Andersson Recycling AB
- When you shop with Photowall, you are also supporting Swedish aid organisation called Vi Agroforestry. (They plant trees in Africa).
These are just some of the eco credentials that Photowall hold, read their environmental policy to find out more.
My Canvas Print Order Experience
Photowall asked me if I would like to review one of their canvas prints. The timing was perfect as we moved house in December and with that acquired a new home office. (Something which was lacking in our previous home).
There is one large wall in the office that needed something on it so a canvas print was the perfect option. As we both love spending time on our boat we opted for a sailing/boating theme in there.
How Does it Work?
For both the canvas prints and wall murals you can either choose an existing image from the website or upload your own. We chose to upload our own.
The picture we chose is from the Isles of Scilly, one of our favourite places in the world.
The ordering process is very simple and took me less than 5 minutes.
The print arrived rolled up in a box with the do-it-yourself frame, which in case you hadn’t already guessed means, you have to put it together yourself. This was a bit fiddly but didn’t take long to do. There are assembly videos on the website to help you. All of the fixings you need are included.
The reason the company don’t supply ready-framed canvas prints is to minimise damage during transit. I imagine this also helps with reducing packaging. If the canvas was ready-made you would need bubble wrap to protect it.
The quality of the print is excellent. My pictures really don’t do it justice!
I love our canvas print, even more so because it came from a company that cares about their impact on the world. If you are looking to buy eco-friendly canvas prints or wall murals I’d highly recommend Photowall.

We were sent this product in return for an honest review. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own
These sound great! I love canvas photo prints, and am always on the lookout for eco alternatives 😊 The self-assembly is a fab idea too – I’m always slightly alarmed by the amount of packaging involved in online shopping!
Hi Sophie,
I’m really happy with our wall canvas and love the fact that it’s eco-friendly!
Wonderful to find a company that makes eco-friendly products. Pinned and shared. Visiting from Going Green
Hi Carol, Yes I was really happy that they got in touch and it looks great on our wall.
Thanks for the pin, much appreciated 🙂
Wow these sound fab! I actually love that they are sent unbuilt, and I hope that doesn’t deter people from ordering. I would love to read about your research into sustainable and ethical clothing too, its one of my aims for this year too. I would love to shop more sustainably for my four children too, but I am finding it really hard because they grow so fast and comparatively the prices for the sustainable clothes are sometimes triple or quadruple their non-sustainable counterparts. It’s amazing to hear that conscious consumerism is becoming more of a thing, Yay!
Hi Hannah, our canvas is really lovely and such great quality. We didn’t mind having to put it together it didn’t take long at all.
I know what you mean about the cost of sustainable clothing it does cost a lot more. I guess the trick is to create a capsule wardrobe first so you only need a few good quality items.
For the kids I’ve decided that clothes from the charity shop is the way forward. As you said they grow so fast by the time you’ve bought something they almost grow out of it. Buying second hand is a good environmentally friendly way of doing it. Also, once they grow out of those clothes you can take them back for someone else to have. You can get some really expensive clothes for very little. Until they stop growing I think this is the way forward for us.
Photowall sounds like a great and eco-friendly way to get some of your best photos up on the wall. Thank you for sharing on #GoingGreen Linky and hope to see you on the next one that opens on March 5th.
