Welcome back to my sixth Meet a Devon Blogger interview series. I cannot believe that it’s already the end of January! Time is going way too fast at the moment.
Trying to bring order to working mum chaos!
Firstly tell us a bit about yourself and your blog?
Hi, my name is Jo, I live in Torbay which is in South Devon with my husband and two girls who are aged 5 and 8. I run the blog Organised Jo, which is all about tips and ideas for working parents to help tame some of the chaos that being a working parent brings.
Why did you decide to start a blog and how long has it be running?
The name of the blog came from a nickname given to me by my friends, as I am normally the one that organised everything – nights out, parties etc. And the reason why I started the blog was to share all the things I have tried to help me be more organised as I juggle being a working mum, as well as having a husband who works shifts. I wanted to let other Working parents know that they aren’t alone in trying to balance everything and with some quick organising ideas life can be a little bit easier.
How long have you lived in Devon?
I have lived in Devon all my life. I grew up in Teignmouth and then moved to Torbay when I was 19.
Name 3 of your favourite places for a day out in Devon?
We love being by the sea and go for walks on beaches pretty much every weekend. My first favourite place would be Broadsands Beach in Paignton. We have a beach hut there and love to spend many a balmy summer’s evening outside the hut having fish and chips while the kids play on the beach.
I also love visiting Dartmouth. It is such a fabulous town, with great shops and places to eat. It’s only ten minutes away with a little ride on the car ferry across the River Dart. There is a fab view of the town as you come down the hill to catch the higher ferry over from Paignton and it just makes me let out a big sigh and reminds me why I love living in this area.
My final favourite place is Dartmoor. Having the coast and the moors so close does mean we are spoilt with things to do and places to go. There are so many places to visit on the Moors but I do love a day out with a climb up to Haytor and then over to Widdecombe in the Moor for a cream tea, Devon style of course!
Name 3 of your favourite places to eat?
We love eating at the Rockfish restaurants, which have been set up by Mitch Tonks. We have eaten at all of the local ones in Dartmouth and Brixham, but we have yet to visit the one in Torquay.
We also have a Pierre Bistro in Torquay and that is also a lovely place to go to for a special occasion. The girls love it there as their kids menu is great. Plus the view from the restaurant is amazing as it is right on the seafront.
Our final favourite place is The Boathouse which is on Preston beach, next to the main Paignton Beach. Again it is a great family place to eat, something for everyone, from fab roasts on Sundays to Pizza, pasta and steaks.
What do you love about living in Devon?
I just love being by the sea but having the countryside on your doorstep too. A walk on the beach pretty much cures everything, it blows the cobwebs away and puts everything into perspective for me.
And anything you dislike?
I don’t think there is. Except maybe if you want to go to a large city, as it takes over four hours to drive to London from here, and trains are very few or far between. It does also feel like we do get left out of things being so far west.
