My first starter home wasn’t what most would call a ‘conventional’ place to live. It was actually a wooden cabin that my Father and Grandad built.
Compass has this blog project going on called Starter Stories. Compass is a real estate platform out of NYC that is interested in the stories of how people make their first house into a home. The quirks, the renovations, and the unique experiences.
I remember at the time it felt like it took ages to construct but in reality, it probably wasn’t that long.
It was the first place that was mine and mine alone. I could fill and decorate it however I saw fit. I went to Ikea and bought all new furniture for it, including a HUGE queen size bed! I loved that bed. Design wise I went for a surf/beach look.
As time went by the cabin had lots of add-ons to it including a caravan, a patio, a trampoline, a basketball hoop and an above ground swimming pool.
It became the place to go for BBQ’s and parties and my sister even moved in next door with her own identical cabin.
I really enjoyed living there with our funny communal living.
I would have loved this when I was a teen!
I would love a cabin like this now!
that is brilliant! I would love one of those now…. a lovely re-treat and I love that it was built for you by family. wonderful
