The kids will love a trip to Tenerife. With its lovely climate, otherworldly landscape and wealth of family-orientated fun jetting off to the Canary Islands is sure to create a lifetime of happy memories.
There’s more to the place than its myriad of family-friendly resorts, in fact few holiday destinations can claim quite the number of activities tailored made for kids as Tenerife. This is in part thanks to the island’s long history as a favourite with holidaymakers, and that position is as true today as ever. So to help you find out about Tenerife has to offer, here are its six best family-friendly activities:
Teide National Park
Tenerife’s unique landscape is one of the main draws to the island. It can feel like you are on another planet, and nowhere is this more the case than in Teide National Park. Children will be amazed by the views of looming Mount Teide and will be fascinated by the weird and wonderful geography of the park. One of the best ways to see it is by camel, which adds a whole layer of fun.
Tenerife boasts Europe’s biggest water park. The ever-popular Siam-Park offers endless entertainment for the whole family. The Thai-themed park has activities perfect for kids of any ages, from the thrill ride of The Tower of Power, to the more sedate thrills of the Sawasdee Children’s Zone.
One of the most memorable experiences you’ll have on any holiday, going on a Submarine Safari is an absolute must on any Tenerife holiday. Take a trip on a spacious and comfortable submarine to see the marine life of the seas around the Canary Islands for yourself.
Another way to take in a slice of Tenerife’s nature is by taking a trip to the Botanical Gardens at Puerto de la Cruz. The gardens are the ideal place for a stroll in the sunshine and a great spot for a family picnic. With so many beautiful plants on display it is a good way to teach kids about the natural world and to have fun doing it.
The sea around Tenerife is perfect for taking a dip and with so many lovely beaches you’ll be spoiled for choice where to do it. But one fun and unique place for a swim is the rock pools at Garachico. Found in the lovely coastal village of Garachico, these natural rock pools have been adapted to become delightful outdoor swimming pools. Created by a volcanic eruption centuries ago, these pools are sure to offer a memorable place for a splash.
Another great place for a swim, Lago Martiánez, was designed by famed local architect Cesár Manrique. The popular water complex has a number of plunge pools and lagoons, and is beautifully situated on the north coast of the island. There’s even a casino on site for the grownups to enjoy.
