Thrifty Thursday – Save Money, Buy In Bulk

If you buy in bulk it’s a  great way to reduce your weekly shopping bill and it can also reduce the amount of trips that you need to make to the supermarket. We regularly buy products in bulk especially our washing powder and cleaning products.

Buy in Bulk

NCS online is an online cleaning supplier where you can buy kitchen cleaning products in bulk. They sell everything from air fresheners to vacuums. I was recently lucky enough to be sent 2 of their 5 litre cartons of bactericidal washing up liquid.

How Much Can You Save?

In most supermarkets a 500ml bottle of washing up liquid will cost you about £1.60.

On the NCS website if you buy 4 or more, 5 litre cartons you will pay £4.99 each.

So if you bought 5 litres of washing up liquid in the supermarket it would cost you £16.00 whereas online it would only cost you £4.99.

That’s a massive saving of £11.01!

The only downsize to this exercise is that you need space to store the cartons (I’ve put ours in the garage) but if you have somewhere then it’s definitely worth looking into.

Tip: If you spend over £50 on the website you get free delivery so it might be worth stocking up on all of your cleaning products in one go.

  1. That is a whole lot of washing up! Bulk buying is such a money saver. Saves on the plastic as well.

I buy pasta in big bags, but I measure out carefully. Otherwise our portions start to creep up because there is so much of it. “Add extra, because there’s lots left in the bag”. Not a problem with the cleaning fluid as you’re probably decanting into an old bottle. 🙂

    1. It is a lot but it should last us for quite some time. We need to start buying pasta in bulk, my two love it!

I have an old kilner bottle that I decanter the liquid into, it looks so much nicer than the plastic ones. Thanks for joining in with Thrifty Thursday 🙂

    1. It does indeed. I’m going to be searching around for more places to buy in bulk in the future, the less trips to the dreaded supermarket the better I say 🙂

    1. I didn’t think about that! I’ll have to monitor what we are using to make sure we don’t use too much. Thanks fro joining in with Thrifty Thursday 🙂
