10 Ways To Increase your Wellbeing

Lately I have been feeling stressed even though I don’t really have anything to be stressed about. I can be sat on the sofa in the evening and my heart is racing for no particular reason. I just don’t seem to be able to relax anymore. Rather than wallow in self pity I have decided to be proactive about it and try to increase my general wellbeing.

The official definition for wellbeing is ‘the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.’ Once you know this you can start to break down each element and focus on how you can improve that particular thing. This is what I have done and I’ve made changes to our lives that will hopefully have a positive effect.

10 Ways To Increase your Wellbeing

Here are 10 ways you can increase your wellbeing…

Declutter your Home

I’m still on my mammoth decluttering mission. It’s a well know fact that too much stuff stresses people out. If your house is overrun with clutter it can affect your day to day living. Have a good look around the room you are in now, are there any areas with too much stuff? Could you possible get rid of some of it to free up some space?

Decluttering is definitely a process that takes time and commitment but with every bag that leaves our house I feel relieved and less stressed. You need to find a system that works for you and your family and stick to it.

In our house I have an unwritten rule that for every one thing that comes into our house two things must go! This makes me really think about whether I really need that item or not because I know I’ll have to get rid of two things I already own.

I recently read a great book called Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying your Life. It really helped to inspire me to declutter. It’s definitely worth a read.

Unsubscribe from Emails

Going through emails is part of my job but lately I have been dreading opening them as it seems to take me a good couple of hours everyday just to sort through them. Not only is that a complete waste of my time but it also stops me from putting my time to better use elsewhere.

I am slowly going through all of my emails and unsubscribing from anything I no longer read or use. As well as that I also plan to go through my archive folders and empty any unwanted mail.

Update: I have just found this fantastic free website called UnRoll.Me where you can unsubscribe from any emails with one click. It’s literally just saved me hours of work!

Buy a Himalayan Salt Lamp

*Himalayan salt lamps are great for increasing your general wellbeing. There has been numerous investigations into the health benefits of the lamps and lots of people swear by then. I keep ours in the living room and I love it! Ideally I’d love to have one in every room in the house.

The lamps help to cleanse the air and have been know to reduce allergy symptoms. The red glow produces a calming affect on the body which helps to improve your mood. Plus they look pretty!

Home Office

We are planning on converting the back of the garage into a home office which means we will have a dedicated space for working. Currently we both work at the kitchen table which isn’t ideal as we never really leave work behind and just switch off.

I literally cannot wait to have a separate space for work as I think it’s going to do wonder for our wellbeing and stress levels.

Monitoring your Health

Personally I’m pretty rubbish at monitoring my health but I plan on working on that. I’ve even asked for a *Fitbit Charge 2 for Christmas from the other half. I’m actually quite excited to test it out although I’m pretty sure my fitness levels are going to be shockingly bad!

It has a ton of great features including all day tracking, sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring and guided breathing sessions. I have no doubt I will be writing a review on it at some point in the future so check back soon to see how I’m getting on with it.

Vitamin Supplements

I have started the whole family on vitamin supplements to see if I can help boost everyone’s immune systems; especially as there seems to be lots of bugs flying around at the moment.  I’ve opted for the Redoxon Triple Action tablets. They have evanescent tablets for adults and chewable gummies for kids.

We have only just started taking them but I’m intrigued to see if they make a difference to our general health. Check back later to see how we get on.

Hypnosis for Stress Relief

Hypnosis recordings can do wonders for your mental health and wellbeing. I have a recording that I listen to every night. Since using it I’m already sleeping better and waking up with more energy in the mornings.

Use Epsom Salt in the Bath

In our bathroom I have a big glass jar full of Epsom salts which I use every time I have a bath. They help to detox your body and relax your muscles. I find the salts are particulary good for when I have a trapped nerve in my back, which I seem to get all the time.

I use the *Westlab Epsom Salts they work perfectly and have a handy resealable pouch for storing them. Every time I have a bath I just scoop out a handful and throw it into the water while it’s still running. If I’m feeling particulary stressed or achy I’ll do two handfuls.

Change your Diet

I truly believe that what you put into your body has a huge impact on your wellbeing. I know for a fact that if we have a week of unhealthy eating (normally if we are on holiday) I’ll pay for it for at least 2 weeks afterwards. I suffer with IBS so I have to be especially careful about what I eat.

Changing your diet can have a massive impact on your life.

Slow Down

I know from experience that this one is easier said than done but if there is a way that you can slow your life down a bit you should consider doing it. Do your children really need to go to a club every night of the week? Do you ever work through your lunch break?

I have tried to make a real effort to slow our lives down a bit and if we are having a particulary busy week I make a conscious effort to keep one of the weekend days free so we can simply chill out at home.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post and even picked up some new tips. I’d love to hear about how you increase your wellbeing and de-stress.
