Since moving down to Devon I have been meaning to do one of the South West Coast Path Walks, 5 years on and we finally got around to it! I chose to do the Berry Head walk as I was on my own with both of the kiddies and the puppy and didn’t fancy walking too far with them all. Nothing worse than getting half way round a walk and one of them just flat out refuses to go any further.
Starting Point on Berry Head
We started our walk at the Berry Head car park right on the top of the hill. The parking was 1 pound per hour.
The Northern Fort
To start with we headed towards the Northern Fort and the lighthouse. Once you get into the Northern Fort area, where the Guardhouse Cafe is, the views are simply breathtaking.
Once you get past the fort area you’ll come across the lighthouse and a wonderful panoramic view out to sea.
The Guardhouse Cafe
At lunchtime we went to the Guardhouse Cafe located in the Northern Fort. They are both dog and child friendly but as it was such a nice day we decided to sit outside. I had a croque monsieur and the kiddies had scampi & chips. It was very tasty food and very reasonably priced.
Suitable replete we carried on with our walk but as we started to make our way down into Brixham town the weather decided to turn so we make a dash back for the car.
Unfortunately we were too late and got soak through! Weather aside though it was a lovely walk and I’d definitely like to go back soon but next time actually complete the circular walk.
