With Christmas just around the corner, now is the perfect time to drink up everything this season has to offer. From decorating the house in red and gold to picking out a few select gifts for friends and family, make the most of this Christmas.
Bake your own Christmas decorations
If your existing Christmas decorations are looking a little out of sorts, try your hand at making a variety of salt dough ornaments. This family-friendly activity is a yearly tradition in some households.
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1 cup of water (add gradually)
Combine the flour and salt and add the water gradually, until the mixture becomes dough-like. Knead on a floured surface – once the dough reaches a stretchy consistency – you’re ready to begin.
Christmas trees, stars and hearts are some of the more popular cookie cutter shapes to choose from – although, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can create your own freestyle designs. Using a straw, place a hole in the top of each shape, so that a ribbon can be added to the decoration later. Cook on a very low heat (100 degrees) for up to three hours. Once cool, paint your decorations in a range of colours using acrylic paint and glitter.
Brighten up the home with flowers
Whether you wish to send flowers to a loved one or you’ve decided to treat yourself to a beautiful bouquet, a floral arrangement will instantly brighten up the home. With Christmas almost upon us, opt for rich, vibrant hues in reds, greens and oranges. From sassy auburn roses to tropical heliconia, serenataflowers.com have a wide range of styles and products to choose from, all of which can be ordered online and delivered the same or next day.
Make picking the tree a yearly tradition
A number of farms offer a cut-your-own tree experience. If you’ve never cut your own tree, why not make it a yearly tradition? Scouring the fields for the perfect tree is a fun outing for the entire family. Once you’ve made a decision, continue the festivities in your own home – decorate the tree whilst sipping on mulled wine, devouring mince pies and listening to joyful music.
