Welcome back to week five of my Meet a Devon Blogger series. I can’t believe we are so far through January already! The children are eagerly awaiting this ‘snow blizzard’ that is supposedly heading our way. I’m not holding my breath!

This week I’m interviewing Betty from the blog Betty Bradshaw – The Life Blog.

The Life Blog

The good, the bad, the sad, the ugly, the incredible, the uplifting, the funny, the perplexing, the heartbreaking, the hilarious, the poignant, the confusing, the annoying and the fabulous…

Betty Bradshaw - The Lifestyle Blog

Firstly tell us a bit about yourself and your blog?

Betty Bradshaw - The Lifestyle Blog I am a Cornish-born girl and mum to our two wonderful nutty boys age four and six years old. I used to work in television production for a long time before they were born but jetting around the world with a script in one hand and a baby on the hip for weeks at a time is not easy!

So alas it had to go for a few years. I may pick it up again on a more casual basis next year when our youngest is in full-time school joining his brother, we shall see. I always have too many things I want to do and not enough hours in the day!

Why did you decide to start a blog and how long has it be running?

My love for writing is what drove me to start this blog which only began in early October 2016. I love words and I love writing articles about many things hence ‘Betty Bradshaw, The Life Blog’ was born.

I am a total blog newbie but have written articles and scripts throughout my career and it probably all began when I did my Theatre & Media degree MANY years ago. 20 years to be precise, wow. Where did that time go?

It’s very early days for me blog wise, but I get totally absorbed when writing (as my family will tell you!) I do love to tell a story and hopefully keep it fairly positive and share things I’ve learned. The world is depressing enough sometimes so I try to keep things on the up where appropriate. If a lesson is learned then an experience is never wasted in my opinion.

I’m currently dabbling in broadcast radio presenting and trying to get into a bit more freelance writing. A happy work-family life balance is they key for me where possible!

How long have you lived in Devon?

I first lived in Plymouth in Devon in 2006 after moving back to the West Country from London to work with a television production company there and be closer to family. Since having our eldest little boy and meeting and marrying a yacht sailor, we have also had a 4-year stint abroad living in Majorca where I had our second son. That’s a blog post right there! C-Sections in Spain…an experience. It’s been busy, to say the least! We moved back to Devon in May 2015.

Name 3 of your favourite places for a day out in Devon?

I really do love Exeter, it’s a great vibrant city that’s just the right size for me. A bit of history, good shops and some lovely eateries. Always interesting events going on there, a bit of something for everyone.

We had a lovely day out at Canonteign falls in the Summer, a beautiful place with some lovely walks, great play areas and a really good cafe with great cake which is always a big tick in my book! The boys loved the zip line and trampoline there as well.

A little closer to home for us, if you’re looking for a nice afternoon tea or coffee venue, The Ducks Ditty floating cafe on the canal in Tiverton is fun. Tables and benches canalside too so you can sit and watch the boats go up and down and the old-fashioned tradition of the cart horse pulling the barge along if you time it right. Lovely on a warm sunny day and a bit different to a usual tea shop.

Name 3 of your favourite places to eat?

I do love a breakfast at Darts Farm. I love a good poached egg and they are very good there!

We’re rather fond of a meal at the Fisherman’s Cot pub at Bickleigh, just wonderful looking out to the river with a glass of wine whilst the children run around. As good in the colder weather wrapped up in coats and sat under the covered area.

We ate for the first time at Harry’s restaurant in Exeter the other night. Really enjoyed it there, lovely atmosphere and great staff as well as a wonderful steak!

What do you love about living in Devon?

I just love the greenery in Devon. After living in Majorca for four years it seems even greener than ever before to me in this part of the world and I thoroughly missed it! I love the changing landscapes each season, the wildlife, the walking and there are some amazing beaches. I consider myself very lucky to be living here and bringing our boys up here even though this Cornish girl is technically the wrong side of the Tamar!

And anything you dislike?

I never seem to have enough time to enjoy it all.
