My Thoughts On Winning A Mad Blog Award

I’m not really sure where to begin with this one? I still don’t think it has quite sunk in.

When Becky from Baby Budgeting tweeted me to congratulate me on being a finalist in the Best Thrifty Blog category I was in shock for about a week. I was convinced it was an error and that I’d get an email come through saying sorry we made a mistake!

Just being a finalist had made my year but then to actually win was something else entirely.

My Mum had texted me on the morning of the awards and asked if I thought I might win. My answer was a simple not a chance! In fact I would have happily bet money on it. I’m not one for false modesty either if I thought I had any chance of winning I would of said so. I was so convinced that I wouldn’t win that I hadn’t prepared anything to say which resulted in me standing in front of the microphone, incoherently mumbling something and then bursting into tears! Just for the record I am not a crier, I hardly ever cry in fact I can’t even remember the last time I did but there I was in front of 200 odd people crying. How embarrassing!

I don’t even remember what I said, how bad is that!

Luckily as the other half also blogs with me on our other blog he was allowed to come along to the awards as my plus one. I’m not really sure what I would have done if he hadn’t of been there.

The whole evening was a bit of a blur probably not helped by the copious amounts of wine and champagne that we consumed.

Here’s a summary of the evening…

  • The host was a family doctor and was probably the most drunk person in the room.
  • The food was not what I expected from a 5 star hotel but was presented very nicely.
  • The hotel itself was lovely and the staff were very friendly.
  • I didn’t get to speak to half the people that I wanted too.
  • I won the award for Best Thrifty Blog.
  • I cried in in front of everyone.
  • We both went back to our hotel very, very drunk.
  • It took me an entire weekend to get over it.

Me with the Experian team who sponsored the Thrifty category.

I’m still not really sure who voted for me. I’d love to know who your are so I can personally say thank you. I sit here at home writing my blog and it still always amazes me that anyone reads it. I just want to say a big thank you for anyone that did vote for me you really have made my year!

    1. Hi Kim, I don’t really know much about Periscope, was that some sort of live feed? Oh god so you saw me make a right fool of myself too then lol. Thank you for your kind words 🙂

    1. Thank you Tracey! The photos were all taken on the other half’s phone but they came out okay considering. It all happened a bit fast, luckily the other half was on the ball!

I'd love to know what you think...
