The next couple of weeks Thrifty Thursday is going to get a little Christmassy, as it’s such an expensive time of year and every little saving helps right?

So this week I’m going to show you how we save money on Christmas cards every year by making homemade Christmas cards. Now I know what you thinking, card making is actually quite an expensive hobby once you’ve bought all of the bits and bobs but not the way I do it.

You need to create a card hoard. You do this by saving all of the cards that you get given by other people for birthdays, Easter, Christmas, basically keep any cards that come through your door.

The next step is to disassemble the old cards, make sure you use every bit that you can.

If you go into a craft store and buy the individual bits it can cost quite a bit of cash, now you have them all for free and as an added bonus you are also doing your bit to recycle too.

Now you can reuse the bits that you have taken off of the old cards to start creating your own.

The only limit with this stage is your imagination and there you have it thrifty, free, Christmas cards.

You can also do the same for any other occasions throughout the year. Here are some cards that the kiddies made for Mother’s Day.

  1. What a brilliant idea. The cards you’ve created from cards look brilliant. We are also having a thrifty Christmas and making our own Christmas cards and felt decorations too. Now it has cost a little bit to get all the bits and pieces to make the decorations but as we’re making them ourselves we’ll be using them for many, many years to come.
