Over the last few years, I have become more aware of the type of clothing that I buy. I’m not a big clothes shopper, in fact, I find the whole process stressful and over stimulating.

However, obviously, I still need to have clothes. (I’m not quite ready to move to an eco-friendly nudist community yet!).

When I’m feeling thrifty I buy my clothes from charity shops. When I want something new I always try to look for an eco-friendly clothing store. There are plenty out there once you do a bit of research.

I was recently contacted by one such store called Viridis Libra…

The Fabrics

Bamboo

Bamboo clothing has many benefits. The fabric is a naturally hypoallergenic product grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides.

It’s a fast-growing plant which makes it a great choice for eco-friendly clothing.

Pure bamboo clothes are fast drying as they absorb moisture very fast. This helps to keep you dry and odour free. They can dry twice as fast as cotton clothes.

Benefits of Bamboo Clothing

  • Hypoallergenic – great for anyone with sensitive skin
  • Fast growing plant – great for the environment
  • Absorbs moisture well -helps to keep you dry and odour-free
  • Great insulator – keeps you cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter
  •  Has natural UV properties – helps protect you from the sun
  • It’s a really soft fabric – feels great against your skin

Hemp

Hemp clothing also has a lot of benefits. It’s is another fast-growing plant and produces more fiber yield per acre than any other source. Hemp can produce 250% more fiber than cotton and 600% more fiber than flax using the same amount of land.

Benefits of Hemp Clothing

  • Fast-growing plant – great for the environment
  • It doesn’t drain the soil of all the nutrients
  • Long lasting clothes
  • Mildew-resistant
  • Great insulator – keeps you cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter
